The Basic Police course required to be a certified police officer is offered at the Medina County Career Center.  Classes are taught by qualified instructors using Ohio Peace Officer Training curriculum. 

From traffic accident investigation to firearms training, the Basic Police program prepares students to sit for the Ohio Peace Officer Exam (OPOTA) and to apply for positions as Sheriff's Deputies and Police Officers.  Training includes unarmed self-defense, driving, legal aspects, and patrol and investigation techniques.

Financial Aid available for qualified students

Candidates must be 21 years of age by course completion, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, pass a pre-test, clear a background check, and provide verification of a recent physical. Graduates earn 16 semester/24 quarter hours of CT2 College Credit. College credit also available through U.Akron, Franklin U., and Lorain CCC
