Academic Credits: 4 per year

  • Subject matter knowledge

  • Understanding the learner

  • Planning instruction – teaching strategies

  • Teaching strategies

  • Learning environments

  • Assessing teaching and learning

  • Professional development

  • School/society relationships

  • Technology skills

  • Internships at multiple levels of education

  • Creation of a portfolio

  • Future Educators of America Organization

  • 11 credit preference
  • 17 years old
  • Demonstrate ninth grade skills in math, reading, writing, science, and citizenship
  • Completed three years of high school with a suggested 2.5 GPA
  • Currently enrolled in a college preparatory curriculum
  • Teacher/counselor recommendations
  • Expressed interest in teaching
  • Previous service to school/community
  • Provide own transportation to internship and seminar sites

Students in the Teacher Education Academy will have multiple levels of experiences: early childhood, middle childhood, high school, special education, and career-technical education to prepare them to pursue a career in education through post-secondary studies. This program is taught by a National Board Certified teacher.

  • Associate or Bachelor of Science in Education

  • Articulation Agreements: Cuyahoga Community College,  Malone College, Ursuline College, University of Cincinnati, Walsh University, University of Toledo, University of Akron, Baldwin Wallace College, Lorain Community College

  • Waived Courses Agreement: Ashland University
